cold temperatures are being felt across southwest virginia tonight. along with the cold temperatures.. parts of our area are seeing some snow tonight.. with that said... let's head right back over to storm team 10 chief meteorologist jeff haniewich. jeff -- a clipper system brought us more snow showers into the mountains, even with a few making it farther east beyond the blue ridge. that energy will move away from us later tonight, but through the evening we will still have the chance for some snow showers. a coating -2" is possible in the nrv and highlands even perhaps into the higher elevations of the roanoke valley, with a dusting possible in spots farther east. it was cold outside on friday, but at least the winds were not all that strong. however, they strengthen big-time tonight. a wind chill advisory is in from nelson, amherst, bedford, franklin, and patrick counties and points west from 11:00pm tonight through sunday at 10:00am. tonight: mountain snow showers taper off late, skies clear after midnight. cold & turning windy with lows in the mid-to-upper teens. wind chills will be below zero in the mountains.

white was charged following the death of her 5- year-old son last march. investigators found him dead in a septic tank. wsls 10's bethany teague explains how the judge reached his verdict. ashley white has been found guilty on all three counts of felony child abuse and neglect. those charges carry a total possible prison sentence 20 years. the verdict came down around 6 o'clock or so. judge bradley finch said that ashley white deliberately left her two children home alone the morning that noah went missing. he said the conditions in her trailer were deplorable. he also said ashley white said that she saw noah standing on top of the septic tank about a month before he died. she told him to never do that again because she was afraid he would break the lid. he said when ashley white went to sleep that morning when she got back home... even though she was still in the home with her kids, she should have known that they would be in danger while she slept. commonwealth attorney mike fleenor did not want to go on camera, but he did speak briefly

verdict. he said, quote -- "i believe ashley white received a fair trial and that justice was served. something caused noah to fall into the septic tank. there is no evidence that ashley white deliberately killed noah, but her lack of supervision certainly caused his death." now when asked about parents who may be concerned that if they fall asleep while their kids are in the home and that they could be charged with a crime, fleenor said that "the home was so atrocious, and the septic tank was such an obvious danger, that she had to be held accountable. it wasn't just that she laid down to take a nap." ashley white sentencing hearing is may 16. some of her family members were court today. they said they did not want to go on camera. ashley white did appear quite emotional throughout much of the day, but she had no visible reaction when the judge read her guilty verdict. in pulaski, bethany teague wsls 10. new at eleven...

investigation leads to the arrest of a lynchburg man. 32-year-old robert trent was arrested on a total of 25 counts related to child pornography and having indecent liberties with a child 13-years of age or under. trent is being held without bond at the lynchburg adult detention center. rocky mount police arrest the man they say robbed the family pharmacy tuesday evening. police say 26- year-old joshua cundiff turned himself in at the franklin county jail this evening. on tuesday -- police say cundiff came into the family pharmacy.. pulled out a gun.. and demanded narcotics. we're getting a first look tonight at the booking video of the two suspects charged in connection to the stabbing death of 13- year-old nicole lovell these video clips from the montgomery county sheriff's office show natalie keepers and david eisnehauer as they were brought into the new river valley regional jail. you can see.. eisenhauer comes in wearing what looks like pajama pants and then changes into an orange jumpsuit. keepers.. is seen taking off her

lovell went missing late last month. days later .. her body was found in north carolina. eisenhauer and keepers are both being held without bond. after a year-long investigation... the martinsville police department arrests 14 people on drug charges. chief sean dunn says all 14 people were indicted by a grand jury monday on 51 charges. those include the sale or distribution of cocaine, marijuana, and oxycodone. the lead investigator says the result of the investigation is for a safer city to live in. lt. greg johnston, special investigations: 04:16:41 "we strongly believe that the arrests from this operation are going to make a major impact on illegal drug activity, not only in the city of martinsville, but also in our surrounding communities." the investigation was conducted primarily undercover.. working with people in the community. hundreds of students take a proactive approach in politics... by participating in the 26-th washington and lee mock convention.

participate in that predicts the candidate who could win the white house. wsls 10's duke carter joins us in studio. duke -- who spoke at tonight's mock convention? political leaders like washington and lee's university alumnus congressman bob goodlatte spoke. another key not speaker was political analyst ann coulter they spoke at tonight's 26th washington and lee mock convention. 05:47:36:22 nats "second legislative session has begun," the energy inside the warren center at washington and lee university is electrifying. 05:47:25:11 nats "roll tide" many students participated in the 26th washington and lee mock convention. and some even dressed the part to represent their state. 05:42:31:04 nats "god bless the great state of texas" wilson miller is a junior at w&l. he says this is his first mock convention and he wanted to make sure he wouldn't forget.

the driver of the vehicle that crossed the center line -- 19- year-old kayla simons died.. the other driver has been identified as 33-year-old christopher hash. drugs and alcohol may have played a factor. danville police are investigating an early morning shooting. investigators say they were called to the 100 block of stonewall court around 2-15 and found a 21- year-old man and 22-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. both are expected to be okay. the victims told officers they were driving through the intersection of first and abbott streets when it happened. this comes as many in the river city are working together to bring an end to violent crime. for the second week in a row, a vigil and walk was held in an effort to put an end to violence in the city. these walks and vigils were all sparked by a shooting earlier this month in which a danville doctor was shot while walking home from the hospital. his neighbor was also shot when he came out to see what was going on. those at tonight's event say

raymond robertson/danv ille resident"i've been kind of behind the scenes on a lot of other different things and i thought this was a good opportunity to show some kind of unity." danville regional medical center's c-e-o has also been asking citizens to submit their ideas for how to combat the violence in the city. he says since last weeks' event he has received several responses. the virginia national guard will merge its readiness center in chatham with the center in danville. the move follows financial constraints. the 40 soldiers operating out of the chatham armory will now operate out of danville. chatham's town clerk and treasurer says this may be a blessing in disguise. timothy hammell, town clerk & treasurer: "we could consolidate some of our interests here in town into that one building, which would really be nice. the added parking there would be a big plus as well." an official closing ceremony for the chatham armory will be held sometime in april or may. after a terrifying trip at sea

woman is home safe tonight. judy stephens remembers clinging to the hallway railings just to stand... as waves more than 30-feet tall and hurricane-force winds slammed into the royal caribbean cruise ship she was on. she was traveling with family headed to the bahamas. instead... as they were leaving port in new jersey... the captain announced the ship would be heading into a storm. stephens said no one was prepared for 150-mile-per- hour winds and a rough voyage. judy stephens, passenger onboard anthem of the seas: "tables and chairs were sideways. that's one of the reasons why the following morning, on monday morning, they had trouble feeding every one. "the kitchens had been slammed, the bakery had been slammed." royal caribbean refunded all passengers and gave a 50-percent discount redeemable on another cruise. reunited at last.

last summer ... ray and jane richard were moving from maine to georgia. along the way... they stopped at a hotel in franklin county to rest... that's when the cat ran away. their granddaughter went on facebook and found the page virginia cat search ... a page for lost and found cats. that's where workers at the franklin county animal shelter saw a picture of jack and were able to reunite the family with their beloved pet. jane richard, reunited with cat - "i was shocked. i would pray every night that someone would find him and take care of him

earlier, that means the storm will have a little more cold air to work with. so, we think the precipitation will start around midnight sunday night/monday morning in the form of snow and farther east through at least midday monday. after that, we could see a switchover in some spots the mountains will likely stay snow for a longer period by sometime monday afternoon to a wintry mix of freezing rain and snow, maybe even some sleet. we think later monday night the wintry mix will changeover to plain rain for a period of time. then we could see the rain change back over to some snow before ending midday tuesday. as far as snow and ice accumulations, here's what we're thinking: roanoke, nrv, southern shenandoah: 2-5" of snow, 0.10- 0.25" of ice

alyssa rae has a closer look at the vikings juggernaut.. last year the northside boys basketball team emerged as a state contender in the 3a ranks, making it all the way to the state semifinals. this year, they hope that experience helps bring them back to richmond. bright "us was making it to the state finals for really hope this mature as a team and everybody got a lot better and just working on the season really helped us take that next step the vikings closed out the regular season with a 21-1 record. notching a win over defending 2a state champions martinsville along the way. pope: "it was a heck of a hard game i was really proud of you guys because i thought that we can't battling and we found a way towards the end of the third in the fourth quarter it was really great quarter for throughout the season the team has always seemed to 'find a way,' and the senior class has been a major contributor to that success. pope: "the senior group is been everything and coach would want and i think they show leadership they care about each other."
